Tucked away in the scenic Mount Dandenong ranges in Melbourne there is a beautiful retro gem waiting to be discovered.
Stepping through the door of Balangara Accommodation is taking a step into the past. Briming with character, this 1950s style B&B is nestled between lush forest where the smell of wood log fire and nature permeates the air.
Balangara boasts a self-catered space with two comfortable retro bedrooms, a functional vintage kitchen and a modern bathroom (because let’s be real, who really wants a retro bathroom??)
I was lucky enough to be able to visit this stunning location for a photo shoot with Melbourne photographer David Maxwell.
Balangara would be the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or maybe even a girl’s night with champagne and laughter. Have a spot of dinner in Olinda which is a short walk away and then wake up the following morning to bird song and breakfast on your private deck.
This place is really a must for retro lovers.
Thank you to the lovely Sue & Frank for hosting us.
When the opportunity arose to take photographs in this incredible spot, I knew I needed something special for my outfit.
I reached out to a dear friend of mine and a retro visionary; Mad Dame Foxes vintage boudoir. This incredible lady creates new pieces and up cycles vintage items. I gave her a breakdown of the look I was after and that was it, she created the whole ensemble that you see in these photos. I thoroughly suggest speaking to her about creating something special for you.
Last but not least, this whole look would not have come together without the wonderful talent of makeup artist Amanda Lee. Amanda and I have worked together on many photo shoots but this was the first time we tackled the iconic makeup of the 60s. As usual, Amanda transformed me into this elegant retro goddess that I barely recognized as the girl who rolled out of bed with bad skin that morning.
Thank you so much David Maxwell for your wonderful photography prowess.
